Two athletes from the USA, Dominic Maurici and Laura Gonzalez Marin, of Caution CrossFit in Miami, took home the top prizes in the Male and Female RX categories at the Rodney’s Revolution/ CrossFit 12-12-12 2nd Annual CrossFit 12-12-12 Throwdown powered by Powerade. The Sport of Fitness held centre stage on 12th August 2017 at the Woodbrook Youth Facility. Ninety athletes from seven different countries (Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Suriname and the USA) competed before an audience of approximately 200 spectators.

Marin dominated her heats – placing first in five out of six of the events, while Maurici had four top place finishes. Both athletes are Reebok CrossFit Regional veterans. Maurici has previously qualified five times for the CrossFit Regionals while Marin qualified this year to compete in the Regionals.

Trinbagonian and other Caribbean CrossFit athletes gave impressive performances as they energetically competed.  Rounding out the top three in the Female Rx Category were Kim Sealy from Limitless Performance and Shari Cadogan from CrossFit Islandfit – CrossFit gyms in Barbados. Maya Faisal, who represented local CrossFit affiliate and event host CrossFit 12-12-12, placed fifth.

On the men’s side, out of a total of 37 male competitors, Trinidadian Shane Rojas of CrossFit 12-12-12 can boast that he is now the fittest male athlete of Trinidad and Tobago having placed second in the Male Rx category.  Levar Greaves of Barbados Limitless Performance placed third.

The Scaled Throwdown 12-12-12 category – where the same Rx workout events are done with scaled or modified movements and lighter weights for athletes to perform – was by no means less challenging for those athletes who competed. Out of a field of 19 males, Daniel Koo of Igone CrossFit, Trinidad took home the top prize and CrossFit 12-12-12 athlete Yannick Duchaussee – who only started this sport some three months ago – placed second.
