There I was minding my own business, enjoying my Rev class…
In runs a group of people I didn’t really know, looking “half dead”.
The group had just run from Las Cuevas to The Oval –
WOW!! I wondered if I could ever do that!
Dial back a year.
I was on a mission, I had a plan.
To be a certain weight and look a certain way by age 50.
A friend introduced me to Body Pump & Spin.
I was told that I should add weight training to my routine, for many reasons.
I had reservations – didn’t want to look like a bodybuilder,
but decided to give it a try.
It was painful, but I persevered,
as I started seeing the results I wanted – and no bulk!
Fast forward to that fateful day.
The gym had been bought over by Rodney Vire
and CrossFit was added to the schedule.
It looked “insane”, so I stayed clear.
But that Las Cuevas run had me intrigued.
I was pumping and revving my life away – creature of habit.
But my weight plateaued,
so like a hamster on its wheel,
I was “running” but no longer going or getting anywhere.
So I decided to mix it up – try the CrossFit …
see if I could actually do that Las Cuevas run.
Well if I thought Pump and Rev were strenuous …
a new word needs to be invented for the “pain” of CrossFit.
But I am a gluten for punishment and love a challenge and after a year,
I had not only reached my goal,
but I felt amazing and didn’t look too shabby either.
I was back!! At 50, I felt like 20 again.
However, I was also now “hooked” – line and sinker.
I was totally fascinated by this sport with its many elements.
I drank the “CrossFit” KOOLAID.
